Jewelry inspired by grandmothers for their granddaughters

That progress can be made by looking to the past is something Isabel Peña has proven. As the fourth generation of one of the most important jewelry families in the country, she has focused her creative vision on paying tribute to the women in her life, the same ones who have inspired her passion. With the name Sibela , the jeweler creates a new brand that combines the letters of her own name and that of her mother, María Isabel, as well as those of her great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Two very emotional reasons lie behind this decision. The first, to remember her family legacy. The second, to celebrate her mother's role in her professional development. She was—like most mothers—her first influencer. From a young age, Isabel would go to her mother's jewelry box to wear the pieces she saw the most important woman in her life wear. That gesture, which we've all made at some point, became one of her sources of ideas.

Her grandfather and father, who transformed the pieces Isabel would find in her family's jewelry boxes into reality, make them doubly magical. This brings the legacy of her entire family to a close: they created the spectacular pieces, and they wore them, passing them down from generation to generation.

Hence, this fusion of her current tastes and the accessories that belonged to her mother, whether new or inherited, gave rise to Sibela, a meeting point between the tastes of mothers and daughters—or even grandmothers—that stands the test of time thanks to its aesthetics and high quality.

Today, Isabel's jewelry box displays jewelry from over a hundred years ago, created by her grandmothers and grandfather and father, alongside creations she has made herself. It's that elegant and timeless style she has sought to reflect in her designs, while also reflecting the affection she feels for the people she admires most in her family.

The best example is the Deep Sea ring, a piece that connects with her grandmother's collection. "She had a ring with a very large blue stone surrounded by white diamonds, just like Lady Di's." Because she was young, she wasn't allowed to wear it, so the jeweler created her own version. By recreating her family's design, she helped other women feel that connection with iconic jewelry.

After becoming a favorite among her customers, Isabel continues to draw inspiration from the tastes of the women in her family. In fact, her next collection will feature another design inspired by her grandmother: a ring that's destined to become a best-seller.

As a fourth generation, Isabel is aware of the importance of adapting to changing times while maintaining the essence of her family. “Jewelry has changed. Before, you only had one ring for life. Now, you want jewelry that reminds you of those special occasions on which it was given to you,” says the jeweler.

Being so present on social media, she knows her customers' feedback firsthand. Connected to what they want, she knows the secret to making her creations a success. It involves combining the majesty of the great jewels of generations past with a modern twist that makes them perfect for both special occasions and everyday wear.
